Cytokeratin 19는 intermediate filament 단백질 아형으로, 인간 상피 조직에서 최소 20종 이상의 폴리펩타이드로 구성된 subfamily에 속합니다. 분자량은 약 40–68 kDa, 등전점은 pH 4.9–7.8 범위에 있습니다. 각 cytokeratin은 상피의 종류 및 분화 정도에 따라 발현 패턴이 다르며, 이러한 특성은 상피성 악성종양의 감별 진단에 유용하게 활용됩니다.
특히 Cytokeratin 19는 간세포에서는 발현되지 않으므로, 간 전이암 식별에 유용한 마커로 사용됩니다.
