Target Information
This gene encodes one of the three enolase isoenzymes found in mammals. The ENO3 isoenzyme is expressed in adult skeletal muscle cells and may play a role in muscle development and regeneration. In rodents, a developmental switch occurs from alpha enolase to beta enolase in muscle tissue. Mutations in this gene have been associated with glycogen storage disease. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described.
