Target Information

Enolase (2-phosphoglycerate hydrolyase or phosphopyruvate hydrates) is a glycolytic enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of 2-phosphoglycerate to phosphoenolpyruvate. It consists of three subunits—alpha, beta, and gamma.
Non-neuronal enolase (ENO1) is an isoform composed of two alpha subunits. The ENO1 gene also encodes tau-crystallin, a monomeric structural lens protein.

ENO1 is multifunctional, involved in glycolysis, growth control, hypoxia tolerance, and allergic responses. It may act as a receptor and activator of plasminogen on cell surfaces, contributing to fibrinolytic processes. Additionally, ENO1 stimulates immunoglobulin production and serves as a diagnostic marker for various tumors, hypoxic brain injury, and endometriosis.

Antibodies against ENO1 are found in cancer-associated retinopathy syndrome (CAR) and Hashimoto encephalopathy (HE), both autoimmune conditions linked to systemic malignancies or thyroid disorders.
