Product Specific Information

The RPA-T4 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD4, a 59 kDa cell surface receptor expressed by most thymocytes, a subpopulation of mature T-helper cells, and at low levels on monocytes. CD4 serves as a receptor for HIV, and RPA-T4 blocks HIV binding and mixed lymphocyte reaction.
RPA-T4 recognizes a different epitope than OKT4, and these antibodies do not cross-block each other.

Applications Reported: Flow cytometric analysis.
Applications Tested: FITC conjugated RPA-T4 tested for flow cytometry at ≤1 µg/test (100 µL final volume). Optimal titration recommended.

Target Information

CD4 antigen is involved in MHC class II recognition and acts as a co-receptor for HIV. It is mainly expressed in T-helper lymphocytes, and also on monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells.
At the tissue level, CD4 is found in thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and specific regions of brain and gut.
CD4 functions in early T-cell activation via association with the T-cell receptor complex and protein tyrosine kinase Lck, and may mediate neuronal damage in infectious or immune-mediated CNS diseases.
Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
