Target Information
CD31 (platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1, PECAM-1) is an inhibitory coreceptor that regulates T and B cell signaling via immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibitory motifs (ITIMs). Upon phosphorylation, these motifs serve as docking sites for protein-tyrosine phosphatases.
CD31 is widely expressed in the vascular system, primarily at intercellular junctions, and mediates homophilic binding crucial for cell-cell interactions. It plays multiple roles in:
- Integrin-mediated cell adhesion
- Transendothelial migration
- Angiogenesis and apoptosis
- Negative regulation of immune receptor signaling
- Autoimmunity and macrophage phagocytosis
- IgE-mediated anaphylaxis and thrombosis
