Specificity: Human NAP-2/PPBP/CXCL7
Target Information
Members of the α-chemokine subfamily of inducible, secreted, pro-inflammatory cytokines contain a Cys-X-Cys motif and are chemotactic for neutrophils.
Platelet basic protein (PBP), a member of this family, resides in platelet α-granules and is released upon activation. Proteolytic cleavage of PBP produces several peptides including mature PBP, connective tissue-activating peptide III (CTAP III), β-thromboglobulin (β-TG), and neutrophil-activating peptide 2 (NAP-2).
These proteins mediate inflammation and wound healing, with NAP-2 promoting chemotaxis and degranulation in neutrophils. The human PBP gene maps to chromosome 4q12–q13.
