Angiotensin II는 강력한 혈관수축 호르몬으로, 알도스테론 분비의 주요 조절자입니다. 이는 심혈관계에서 혈압과 체액량을 조절하는 중요한 인자이며, 최소 두 가지 수용체를 통해 작용합니다.
AGTR1 유전자는 angiotensin II의 주요 심혈관 효과를 매개하는 Type 1 수용체를 암호화합니다. 또한 허혈 또는 경색 후 혈류 재개 시 발생하는 재관류 부정맥의 생성에 관여할 수 있습니다.
과거에는 관련 유전자 AGTR1B가 존재한다고 여겨졌으나, 현재는 인간에서 하나의 Type 1 수용체 유전자만 존재하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다. 여러 가지 대체 스플라이싱 전사체 변이도 보고되었습니다.
