Target Information
Dengue fever and dengue hemorrhagic fever are acute febrile diseases found in tropical regions and Africa. They are caused by one of four related virus serotypes of the genus Flavivirus (family Flaviviridae). Each serotype is distinct, providing no cross-protection, and multiple serotypes can cause hyperendemic outbreaks. Transmission occurs via Aedes aegypti (rarely Aedes albopictus) mosquitoes, which feed during the day.
