Target Information
Glutamine synthase belongs to the glutamine synthetase family. It plays a key role in ammonia incorporation via glutamate dehydrogenase and glutamine synthase. Glutamate serves as both a nitrogen donor and acceptor, central to mammalian nitrogen flow and neurotransmitter regulation. GS activity is tightly controlled by adenylylation and is reduced in the cerebral cortex of Alzheimer’s disease brains and under glucose deprivation conditions.
