AGT 유전자가 암호화하는 단백질은 간에서 발현되며, 혈압 저하 시 renin에 의해 절단되어 angiotensin I을 생성합니다. 이후 ACE에 의해 angiotensin II로 전환되어 생리적으로 활성화됩니다.
이 단백질은 혈압 유지, 본태성 고혈압 및 자간전증의 병태생리에 관여합니다.
