Target Information
MAP2K1 (MEK1) kinase is a dual-specificity protein kinase functioning in mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascades, which regulate cell growth and differentiation. MAP2K1 is activated by various growth factors, cytokines, membrane depolarization, and calcium influx. Activation occurs via phosphorylation of serine 218 and 222 residues by Raf1. It is involved in stress response signaling, apoptosis, and cytokine-induced proliferation. Mutations in MAP2K1 are associated with cardiofaciocutaneous syndrome.
