Product Specific Information

This MI15 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD138 (syndecan-1), a transmembrane proteoglycan containing chondroitin sulfate and heparan sulfate chains that mediate binding to extracellular matrix components. CD138 is not expressed on mature B cells but is present on pre-B cells and fully differentiated plasma cells.

Applications Reported: Flow cytometric analysis.
Applications Tested: Pre-diluted and tested by flow cytometric analysis of stimulated normal human peripheral blood cells. Recommended use at 5 µL (0.25 µg) per test in a final volume of 100 µL. Suitable for 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test.

eFluor 450 is an alternative to Pacific Blue, excited by the 405 nm violet laser and emitting at 446 nm. Ensure instrument compatibility before use.

Target Information

CD138 (Syndecan-1) is a transmembrane proteoglycan that binds cytokines and extracellular matrix components, influencing various developmental and cellular processes. It is expressed mainly in differentiating keratinocytes and transiently upregulated upon tissue injury. High expression is found in plasma cells, and it is also detected in fibroblasts, vascular smooth muscle cells, and endothelial cells. Altered CD138 expression correlates with cancer progression, and soluble sCD138 levels serve as a prognostic marker in oncology.
