Target Information
The phosphoenolpyruvate-dependent sugar phosphotransferase system (sugar PTS) is a major carbohydrate active transport system that catalyzes the phosphorylation of incoming sugar substrates along with their translocation across the cell membrane (PubMed:3129430, PubMed:17158705).
The enzyme II complex composed of PtsG and Crr is involved in glucose transport (PubMed:2657735).
The non-phosphorylated EIII-Glc inhibits uptake of sugars such as maltose, melibiose, lactose, and glycerol, while the phosphorylated form may activate adenylate cyclase.
This protein plays an important regulatory role in cell metabolism (PubMed:789369).
