Target Information
Annexins are a family of calcium-dependent phospholipid-binding proteins. Members contain four internal repeat domains, each including a type II calcium-binding site. These sites are essential for annexins to aggregate and bind anionic phospholipids and extracellular matrix proteins.
Annexin A9 is a divergent member of this family, where all four homologous calcium-binding sites are substituted, abolishing their function. Structural analysis suggests the conserved ion channel formed by the tetrad core remains intact.
