Target Information
MLCK (MLCK2), also known as MYLK3, is part of the myosin regulatory light chain kinases that facilitate muscle contraction. This Ser/Thr protein kinase phosphorylates myosin light chains, enabling interaction with actin filaments and regulating smooth muscle contraction. It influences vascular permeability, tissue edema formation, and neural functions such as astrocytic process growth and neurotransmitter release. MLCK plays roles in fibroblast apoptosis signaling and is expressed in various adult and fetal tissues. The Telokin isoform binds calmodulin and is widely distributed. MLCK activity is likely down-regulated by phosphorylation. The protein includes one fibronectin type III domain and nine immunoglobulin-like C2-type domains.
