Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 군에 속하며, 주로 중추신경계의 성상교세포(astrocyte)와 일부 신경교세포에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 말초신경계의 위성세포와 비수초형 슈반세포에서도 발현됩니다.
GFAP는 신경줄기세포의 마커로 널리 사용되며, 성상교세포 유래 뇌종양에서 높은 발현을 보입니다. 렌즈 상피, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 타액선 종양의 일부 세포, 적혈구에서도 보고된 바 있습니다.
GFAP 항체는 발달 과정에서 성상교세포를 다른 신경교세포와 구분하는 데 유용하며, GFAP 유전자의 돌연변이는 희귀한 신경교세포 질환인 Alexander disease를 유발합니다. GFAP 유전자는 다양한 스플라이싱을 통해 여러 이소폼을 생성합니다.
