Product Specific Information
- Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed):
Incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 minutes at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene was initially named CA-related protein due to its sequence similarity to other known carbonic anhydrase genes. However, the gene product lacks carbonic anhydrase activity (the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide). Despite this, it retains the carbonic anhydrase designation based on clear sequence identity to other members of the family. The absence of CA8 gene transcription in the cerebellum of the lurcher mutant mouse, which exhibits a neurologic defect, suggests an important role for this acatalytic form.
