Product Specific Information
- Reconstitution: Add 100 µL distilled water to obtain ~1 mg/mL final concentration.
- For conjugation experiments, perform an additional desalting step (e.g., Zeba Spin Desalting Columns, 7K MWCO, 0.5 mL, Product #89882).
Target Information
The ADH5 gene encodes a member of the alcohol dehydrogenase family. These enzymes metabolize a wide range of substrates including ethanol, retinol, aliphatic alcohols, hydroxysteroids, and lipid peroxidation products.
The encoded protein forms a homodimer with minimal ethanol oxidation activity but high activity for oxidation of long-chain primary alcohols and S-hydroxymethyl-glutathione.
This enzyme plays a key role in cellular formaldehyde detoxification, preventing irritation and sensitization effects such as lacrymation, rhinitis, and dermatitis.
The human genome also contains several non-transcribed pseudogenes related to this gene.
