Target Information

Cyclins bind to and regulate the activity of Cyclin-dependent protein kinases (CDKs).
Cyclin B1 (CCNB1) is a regulatory protein involved in mitosis and is essential for controlling the cell cycle at the G2/M transition.
It complexes with p34 (cdc2) to form the maturation-promoting factor (MPF). Two alternative transcripts have been identified: one constitutively expressed and another cell cycle–regulated, expressed mainly during the G2/M phase.
Cyclin B1 accumulates during G2 phase and undergoes APC-dependent degradation at the end of mitosis, a process required for proper cell cycle progression.
Overexpression of Cyclin B1 has been reported in several cancers, including breast, prostate, and non–small cell lung cancer.
