Target Information
Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases catalyze the aminoacylation of tRNA by their cognate amino acid. Due to their central role in linking amino acids with nucleotide triplets contained in tRNAs, they are considered among the earliest proteins in evolution.
Tyrosyl-tRNA synthetase (YARS) belongs to the class I tRNA synthetase family. In humans, YARS exhibits cytokine activity when split into two fragments:
- The N-terminal fragment acts as an interleukin-8-like cytokine.
- The C-terminal fragment functions as an EMAP II-like cytokine.
