Specificity: Recognizes the 55kDa human CD4 cell surface antigen, expressed by helper T lymphocytes and by monocytes.

Target Information

The CD4 antigen is involved in the recognition of MHC class II molecules and acts as a co-receptor for HIV. CD4 is primarily expressed in T helper lymphocytes, but may also be found in monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. Tissue-level expression includes thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and certain regions of the brain and gut. CD4 functions to initiate or augment early T-cell activation via association with the T-cell receptor complex and Lck protein tyrosine kinase. It may also play a role in neuronal damage during infectious or immune-mediated CNS diseases. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
