Target Information
The PKC family of serine/threonine kinases, including PRKCA (PKC alpha), is activated intracellularly by signal transduction pathways. In humans, at least 12 different PKC polypeptides have been identified. These isoforms differ in structure, tissue distribution, subcellular localization, and substrate specificity. Conventional PKC isoforms (alpha, beta I, beta II, gamma) are Ca²⁺- and phospholipid-dependent. PKC enzymes phosphorylate various protein targets and are involved in diverse signaling pathways, acting as major receptors for phorbol esters. PKC alpha plays roles in cell adhesion, transformation, cell cycle regulation, and cardiac contractility.
