Target Information
The ZBTB family of proteins includes diverse zinc finger proteins containing a BTB (BR-C, ttk, and bab) domain.
ZBTB5 is a POZ domain Kruppel-like zinc finger (POK) protein that binds DNA and represses transcription of the cell cycle arrest gene p21.
It interacts with co-repressor histone deacetylase complexes such as BCoR, NCoR, and SMRT via its POZ domain, leading to deacetylation of histones Ac-H3 and Ac-H4 at the proximal promoter.
ZBTB5 promotes cell proliferation and cell cycle progression, suggesting a potential proto-oncogenic role.
