Target Information

GOLPH1, also known as GCP60, was initially identified as a Golgi protein that interacts with the integral membrane protein giantin and is thought to be involved in maintaining Golgi structure. GOLPH1 also interacts with other Golgi proteins such as Golgin-160, which can be cleaved by caspases-2, -3, and -7, leading to nuclear localization of Golgin-160. The interaction between GOLPH1 and the cleaved Golgin-160 fragments is stronger than with the intact form, regulated by the oxidation state of Cys-463 within GOLPH1. This suggests that nuclear localization of caspase-cleaved Golgin-160 fragments is a coordinated event. Additionally, GOLPH1 interacts with Numb, a cytosolic signaling protein involved in asymmetric cell division of neural progenitor cells, implying that Golgi fragmentation and reconstitution during the cell cycle may regulate Numb signaling and link cell fate with cell cycle progression.
