Target Information
The ADAM8 gene encodes a member of the ADAM (a disintegrin and metalloprotease domain) family. These membrane-anchored proteins are structurally related to snake venom disintegrins and are involved in various biological processes such as cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions, fertilization, muscle development, and neurogenesis. The protein may play a role in cell adhesion during neurodegeneration and is considered a potential target for allergic respiratory diseases, including asthma. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
