EMSY는 전사 억제 기능을 가지며, 다단백질 크로마틴 리모델링 복합체와의 상호작용을 통해 크로마틴 구조를 조절할 수 있습니다. BRCA2와의 결합을 통해 DNA 복구 기능에 중심적인 역할을 할 가능성이 있습니다. 또한 히스톤 H3 특이적 메틸트랜스퍼레이스 복합체의 일부로서, 핵 호르몬 수용체에 의한 리간드 의존적 전사 활성화를 매개할 수 있습니다.
