Target Information
A-kinase anchor proteins (AKAPs) are a group of structurally diverse proteins that bind to the regulatory subunit of protein kinase A (PKA), anchoring the holoenzyme to specific cellular locations.
The AKAP13 gene encodes a member of this family and produces multiple isoforms through alternative splicing. These isoforms contain C-terminal dbl oncogene homology (DH) and pleckstrin homology (PH) domains.
The DH domain mediates guanine nucleotide exchange activation for Rho/Rac family GTPases, converting them to active forms that transduce cellular signals. The PH domain has multiple functional roles.
Overall, AKAP13 isoforms act as scaffolding proteins coordinating Rho signaling pathways, anchoring PKA, and enhancing ligand-dependent estrogen receptor α and β activities.
