Target Information
In vertebrates, homeobox genes encode transcription factors found in clusters (A, B, C, and D) on separate chromosomes. These genes are regulated spatially and temporally during embryonic development.
The HOXA5 gene, located on chromosome 7, encodes a DNA-binding transcription factor involved in gene regulation, morphogenesis, and differentiation. Methylation-induced loss of expression may contribute to tumorigenesis, as HOXA5 upregulates the tumor suppressor p53.
