Target Information
Trefoil family proteins have at least one trefoil motif—a 40-amino acid domain with three conserved disulfide bonds. They are stable secretory proteins expressed in gastrointestinal mucosa and may protect the mucosa, stabilize the mucus layer, and promote epithelial healing. TFF1 is expressed in gastric mucosa and has been studied for its role in human tumors. TFF1 and related genes are located on chromosome 21.
