Cellular Localization Nucleus, nucleoplasm, cytoplasm, nucleolus. Expressed predominantly in the nucleoplasm. Interaction with ARF(P14) results in localization of both proteins to the nucleolus. Colocalizes with RASSF1 isoform A in the nucleus.
Background This gene encodes a nuclear-localized E3 ubiquitin ligase that promotes tumor formation by targeting tumor suppressor proteins such as p53 for proteasomal degradation. It is transcriptionally regulated by p53, and overexpression or amplification is observed in various cancers. A pseudogene exists on chromosome 2. Alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants, many expressed only in tumor cells. (RefSeq, Jun 2013)
