Target Information

Tmem119 encodes a single-pass type I transmembrane protein that interacts with various micro-RNAs and transcription factors such as SMAD1, SMAD5, and RUNX2.
It serves as a surface marker distinguishing microglia from infiltrating macrophages. Microglial cells are brain-restricted phagocytes involved in debris clearance and neuronal dendrite pruning, exhibiting high functional plasticity in response to microenvironmental changes.

Reactive microglia co-express Iba1 and are implicated in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s disease, and Multiple Sclerosis, through secretion of Cq1, IL-1a, and TNF.
Outside the nervous system, Tmem119 is associated with osteoblast differentiation and ossification.
