Product Specific Information
This antibody recognizes an extracellular epitope on the CD3 antigen of the TCR/CD3 complex on mature human T cells. Also known as Orthoclone OKT3 or Muromonab-CD3, it has been used therapeutically for acute, glucocorticoid-resistant rejection of allogenic renal, heart, and liver transplants. It has also been investigated for treatment of T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
Target Information
The CD3 subunit complex is crucial for transducing antigen-recognition signals into T-cell cytoplasm and regulating TCR complex expression. Activation through the TCR involves CD3 gamma, delta, epsilon, and zeta subunits, which are structurally related members of the immunoglobulin superfamily encoded on human chromosome 11. CD3 may play roles in TCR-induced growth arrest, cell survival, and proliferation. CD3 antigen is present on 68–82% of peripheral blood lymphocytes and 65–85% of thymocytes, but not on B or NK cells. Defects in CD3 genes are associated with CD3 immunodeficiency.
