Target Information
Mammalian apurinic/apyrimidinic endonuclease (APE/ref-1) is a multifunctional enzyme involved in DNA base excision repair and redox regulation of various transcription factors such as Fos, Jun, NF-kB, Myb, HIF-1α, CREB, and Pax. APE1 plays a key role in maintaining genomic stability by repairing abasic sites caused by oxidative damage, radiation, or chemical agents. It also participates in cell cycle control (p53) and apoptosis regulation. Expression levels of APE1 vary across tissues and developmental stages, and its regulation is influenced by phosphorylation via casein kinase II. Elevated APE1 expression is observed upon reoxygenation of hypoxic cells and in some malignant tissues, while decreased expression is associated with apoptosis induction.
