Target Information
Apoptosis is related to many diseases and developmental processes. Cell death signals are transduced by molecules containing domains such as death domain (DD), death effector domain (DED), and caspase recruitment domain (CARD). CARD-containing proteins include caspases, Apaf-1, CARD4, IAPs, RICK, ARC, RAIDD, BCL-10, and ASC.
CARD8, a novel CARD-containing protein, interacts with DRAL—a p53-responsive protein implicated in apoptosis induction—and with caspase-1 and its related proteins ICEBERG and pseudo-ICE.
Although reports vary regarding whether CARD8 acts as a pro- or anti-apoptotic protein, it is suggested to function as an adaptor molecule regulating caspase-1 and NF-kappa-B activation.
