Product Specific Information

In Western blot, this antibody recognizes CD59 under non-reducing conditions.
A suggested positive control for immunohistochemical applications is tonsil tissue.
For FACS analysis, use 10 µL of the suggested working dilution to label 1×10⁶ cells in 100 µL.

Target Information

CD59 (Protectin) is a small (18–20 kDa) GPI-anchored, ubiquitously expressed inhibitor of the membrane attack complex (MAC). It protects autologous cells from complement-mediated lysis by binding complement C8 and/or C9, preventing pore formation.
CD59 also interacts with the C5b-8 complex, participates in T cell costimulation, and is involved in lymphocyte signal transduction.
Mutations in CD59 can cause CD59 deficiency, leading to hemolytic anemia, thrombosis, and cerebral infarction. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified.
