Target Information
Fibronectin type III domain-containing protein 5 (FNDC5), the precursor of irisin, is a secreted protein encoded by the FNDC5 gene. It is released from muscle cells during exercise and may play a role in the development of brown adipose tissue. Translation of the precursor initiates at a non-AUG start codon conserved among species. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
