Cytokeratin 8은 type II keratin 계열의 단백질로, 염색체 12의 긴 팔에 위치합니다. Type I 및 type II keratin은 상피 세포의 세포질 내 중간 필라멘트를 형성하기 위해 이합체를 이루며, Cytokeratin 8은 Keratin 18과 함께 단층 상피세포에서 중간 필라멘트를 구성합니다. 이 단백질은 세포 구조적 안정성을 유지하며, 신호전달 및 세포 분화에도 관여합니다. 해당 유전자의 돌연변이는 cryptogenic cirrhosis를 유발할 수 있습니다.
