Product Specific Information

EpCAM (Epithelial cell adhesion molecule, CD326, KSA, TROP1) is a 40 kD cell-surface adhesion molecule involved in homophilic, calcium-independent cell-cell interactions. It is a type-I transmembrane protein expressed primarily on the basolateral surface of most epithelia.
Normal epithelia express low levels of EpCAM, whereas increased expression correlates with proliferation and epithelial-mesenchymal transition. EpCAM serves as a diagnostic marker for circulating metastatic carcinoma cells, while non-epithelial cancer cells do not express it.

Applications Reported: This 1B7 antibody is suitable for flow cytometric analysis.
Applications Tested: Pre-diluted and tested for flow cytometric analysis of A549 cells. Recommended usage is 5 µL (0.125 µg) per test (100 µL final volume). Cell count can range from 10⁵ to 10⁸ cells/test.

Target Information

Ep-CAM (epithelial adhesion molecule, ESA) is a transmembrane glycoprotein (~40 kDa) expressed in epithelial cells. It functions as a Ca²⁺-independent homotypic adhesion molecule and regulates cell cycle and proliferation through induction of c-myc and cyclin A/E genes.
Ep-CAM-mediated adhesions negatively regulate cadherin-mediated interactions, affecting epithelial differentiation and growth. Overexpression is linked to enhanced proliferation and carcinoma progression. It is highly expressed in human carcinomas and serves as a marker for epithelial-origin tumors.
Ep-CAM is found on the basolateral surface of most epithelia and distinguishes adenocarcinomas from pleural mesotheliomas.
