Target Information
POU5F1 (also known as Oct-4) is a maternally expressed octamer-binding transcription factor crucial for early embryonic development. It plays a key role in maintaining pluripotency and self-renewal in embryonic stem cells. Expression of POU5F1, along with Sox2, Klf4, Lin28, and c-Myc, allows the generation of induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells from somatic cells. These iPS cells offer potential for regenerative medicine and treatment of degenerative diseases.
