Target Information
TRPM2 belongs to the ion transport protein family, including sodium, potassium, and calcium ion channels. This family is characterized by proteins with six transmembrane helices, where the last two flank a loop determining ion selectivity.
TRPM2 is activated by oxidative stress and confers susceptibility to cell death. It functions as a calcium-permeable cation channel regulated by intracellular ADP-ribose.
Several alternatively spliced transcript variants of the TRPM2 gene have been described, but their full-length nature is not known.
