Product Description
This kit provides a fast, reliable and simple procedure for isolating DNA from urine volumes ranging from 3 mL to 25 mL. Both high molecular weight DNA (>1 kb, mostly cell-associated) and smaller DNA (150–250 bp, circulation-derived) are effectively isolated and purified using a rapid spin column protocol. Multiple samples can be processed within 45 minutes. Salts, metabolic wastes, proteins and other contaminants are removed to yield inhibitor-free DNA suitable for PCR, qPCR, DNA fingerprinting, methylation studies, and more.
The kit can also isolate DNA from a broad range of viruses.
Compatible with Norgen’s Urine Collection and Preservation Tubes.
Note: This kit does not provide diagnostic results. Users must validate the kit with downstream in vitro diagnostic assays.

Total urinary DNA was isolated from 3 mL, 6 mL, 12 mL, and 24 mL urine samples using the optimized protocol. The DNA was eluted into two separate elutions (E1 and E2), then loaded onto a 1.5% agarose gel. Lane M represents Norgen’s FastRunner DNA Ladder.

Total genomic DNA was isolated from 3, 6, 12, and 24 mL urine samples and subjected to qPCR using human 5S gene primers. Increasing DNA amounts (1, 3, 6, 9 µL) were used to confirm absence of PCR inhibitors.

HSV-1 plasmid DNA was spiked into 25 mL urine samples at decreasing concentrations (10⁶ to 10⁰ copies). DNA was isolated and amplified using HSV-1-specific primers. As few as 250 viral copies were detected.

Storage Conditions and Product Stability
All solutions should be tightly sealed and stored at room temperature.
Warm Solution A and B for 20 minutes at 60°C if salt precipitation is observed.
All components are stable until the expiration date on their labels.
