Target Information
Aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases are enzymes that charge tRNAs with their cognate amino acids.
FARS2 encodes a mitochondrial phenylalanine-tRNA synthetase (PheRS) composed of a single polypeptide chain, unlike the (α-β)₂ structure of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cytoplasmic forms.
Structural and catalytic analyses suggest that mitochondrial PheRSs represent a distinct class separate from those found in prokaryotes and the eukaryotic cytoplasm.
