Target Information
This protein encodes an enzyme that synthesizes selenophosphate from selenide and ATP.
Selenophosphate acts as the selenium donor for selenocysteine synthesis, which is co-translationally incorporated into selenoproteins at in-frame UGA codons.
The protein itself contains a selenocysteine residue in its active site.
The 3′ UTR of the gene includes a stem-loop structure called the SECIS element, allowing UGA to encode selenocysteine instead of serving as a stop codon.
