Target Information
Podoplanin (PDPN, T1A, gp38, Aggrus) is a mucin-type 1 glycoprotein (40–43 kDa) expressed in various tumors and normal cells, particularly lymphatic endothelial and follicular dendritic cells. It localizes in stromal cells of peripheral lymphoid tissue and thymic epithelial cells. As a regulator of lymphatic endothelium, podoplanin plays a role in maintaining podocyte shape and serves as a ligand for CLEC-2. Its expression correlates with tumor invasiveness and metastatic potential. Podoplanin contributes to cell migration, metastasis formation, and tumor invasion. Expression may be induced via Src activation of Cas, and recent studies indicate its presence on Th17 cells. Dysfunction of podoplanin is associated with diseases such as lymphangioma and subglottis neoplasm. It is also proposed as a marker for lung injury due to its physiological role.
