Target Information
In the developing cortex, cortical neurons must migrate over long distances to reach their final differentiation sites. DCX (Doublecortin) is a cytoplasmic protein that directs neuronal migration by regulating microtubule organization and stability. It contains two doublecortin domains that bind microtubules and interacts with LIS1, a regulatory subunit of platelet-activating factor acetylhydrolase. This interaction is crucial for proper microtubule function during cortical development. Mutations in the DCX gene cause X-linked lissencephaly.
