Carbonic anhydrase III (CAIII)는 여러 유전자 가족 중 하나로, 탄산 무수화효소 이소자임을 암호화합니다. 이 효소들은 이산화탄소의 가역적 수화 반응을 촉매하는 금속 효소로, 다양한 세포 유형에서 다르게 발현됩니다.
CA3 유전자는 조직 특이적으로 발현되며, 골격근에서 높은 수준으로 존재하고 심장 및 평활근에서는 낮은 수준으로 존재합니다. Duchenne 근이영양증 보유자 중 일부는 정상보다 높은 CA3 수준을 보입니다.
