PDGF-B 유전자는 platelet-derived growth factors (PDGF) 및 vascular endothelial growth factors (VEGF) 계열에 속하는 단백질을 암호화합니다. 생성된 PDGF-B 서브유닛은 호모다이머 또는 PDGF-A 서브유닛과 헤테로다이머를 형성할 수 있으며, PDGF 수용체 tyrosine kinase를 활성화하여 다양한 발달 과정에 관여합니다.
이 유전자의 변이는 meningioma와 관련이 있으며, 염색체 22와 17 사이의 상호 전좌는 dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans와 연관되어 있습니다. 대체 스플라이싱으로 여러 전사체 변형이 생성됩니다.
