Target Information

ECM1 (Extracellular Matrix Protein 1) plays a significant role in regulating extracellular matrix organization and cell adhesion. It is expressed in various tissues including the skin, lung, and liver, and is involved in the development and progression of several diseases such as cancer and dermatological disorders. ECM1 interacts with extracellular matrix proteins like collagen and fibronectin, influencing cell proliferation, migration, and invasion. It also contributes to endochondral bone formation, angiogenesis, and tumor biology. Mutations in ECM1 are associated with lipoid proteinosis (Urbach-Wiethe disease), characterized by thickening of skin and mucosae. Multiple isoforms exist due to alternative splicing.
