Target Information
The c-Myc protein is a 62 kDa transcription factor encoded by the c-Myc gene on human chromosome 8q24. It is commonly activated in tumor cells and plays a critical role in cellular proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression.
Phosphorylation at Thr58/Ser62 by kinases such as GSK3, CDK, ERK2, and JNK is associated with cell cycle regulation.
c-Myc is essential for vasculogenesis and angiogenesis during tumor development. Deregulated c-Myc expression can induce apoptosis and is implicated in various cancers including lung, breast, colon, and Burkitt’s lymphoma due to gene amplification or translocation events.
Antibodies against c-Myc epitopes are commonly used to detect Myc-tagged fusion proteins and study oncogenic signaling pathways.
