Target Information
This protein belongs to the aldehyde dehydrogenase family. It plays a role in the 9-cis-retinoic acid biosynthesis pathway, converting 9-cis-retinal into the RXR ligand 9-cis-retinoic acid. The enzyme exhibits ~40-fold higher activity with 9-cis-retinal than with all-trans-retinal, making it the first known aldehyde dehydrogenase with this substrate preference. Two transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified for this gene.
